Ministry Focus: Provide opportunities to develop relationships and ministries in the rural Alaskan community of Sand Point, under supervision of the current pastor and elder board. Internship has the potential to become a full time position.
Qualifications: Evidence of following Christ, meeting the Biblical qualifications of an elder as outlined in 1Timothy 3 and Titus:1; education or experience in leading a shepherding ministry, teachable spirit, servant’s heart, capable of cross-cultural communications.
Description of community: Sand Point has a population of 1,000, with 70 percent indigenous Alaskans, primarily of Aleut decent. Sand Point is an island community in the Western Gulf of Alaska, part of the Eastern Aleutian Borough.
Ministry Goals: To develop candidate(s) to reach younger families with God’s message of forgiveness, hope, grace, peace and strength in the midst of an ever-demanding secular culture. Preparing to become a church pastor or leader.
Support: Sand Point Baptist Chapel will supply a two-bedroom apartment with basic utilities. Additionally there is a monthly stipend. Candidate is encouraged to raise additional support or find part-time employment in the community.
