Pioneer Camp is an overnight camp for kids who are entering the 2nd – 4th grades in the coming school year. The interested mission team should seek to bring a volunteer staff of 24, which may be comprised of at least 12 adults and 12 teens aged 16 and older who will serve as junior leaders, alongside the adult team members. Camps generally run fairly even in number of boys and girls and the team should reflect a similar makeup. Local leaders may be able to supplement volunteer staffing. The mission team will be supported by the paid summer staff and will not be responsible for cooking, maintenance, cleaning, or other background tasks. Instead, the mission team will find themselves dedicated to leading small group times for Bible study, cabin chaperones and devotionals, recreation time, a morning wake-up and a nightly worship time, and spending as much time as possible with the campers while they are with us.

Campers begin arriving at 2:00 pm on Sunday and will be dismissed for pickup after lunch on Thursday. Cabins hold a maximum of 12 people and will be arranged with up to 10 campers and two chaperones. The cabins are equipped with bunks and mattresses. Bedding for mission team members is provided by the camp. Shower and bathhouse facilities are available on the campus. Towels and washcloths are supplied for the mission team members.

Mission teams are encouraged to arrive late on Friday or Saturday to enjoy some Alaskan adventures. Coordinate with LGC before arrival regarding meals and lodging prior to the beginning of the camp event. Camp orientation will take place on Sunday morning in preparation for camper arrival at 2:00 pm. Once the camp event begins, there is no opportunity for excursions until the camp has been completed. Arrangements can be made to remain at the camp beyond the Thursday lunch dismissal with consideration given to preparations for the next camp which will begin on the next Sunday.
